Abstract

Measurements of total radiant power emitted by bouyant turbulent flame jets of various hydrocarbon fuels confirmed the previously established constancy of radiative fraction of total heat release rate, χRAD, for a given fuel. Values of χRAD, ranging from 0.181 for methane to 0.429 for 1,3-butadiene, were found to be linearly correlated with the smoke-point flame length Ls of laminar diffusion flames. A least-square fit yielded χRAD=0.43–0.91 Ls (Ls in m)
