Abstract

Objective To survey the distribution feature of pathogenic bacteria in patients with acute exacerbation period of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) in Dalian and discuss the relationship between bacterial infection and PaO2,PaCO2.Methods Sputum culture and blood gas analysis of patients with AECOPD who were treated in the first affiliated hospital of Dalian medical university between December 2008 and March 2010 were made. The patients were divided into positive group and negative group according to their sputum cultures. The differences of PaO2 and PaCO2 between the two groups were compared. Results The main pathogenic bacteria in patients of this area was gram-negative bacilli.PaO2 of positive group was significantly lower than that of negative group, while the PaCO2 was much higher than that of negative group. Conclusions Detecting the change of bacteria spectrum can provide direction for local empiric antibiotic therapy. The blood gas analysis indicating seriously ill patients often has bacterial infection, and they should receive reasonable antibiotic treatment as soon as possible.
