Abstract

SummaryIntraperitoneal injection of PAPP resulted in a decreased oxygen tension in tissues; and 90% of the decrease was reached within 15-20 minutes after injection. The course and the extent of the decrease in oxygen tension after PAPP injection was the same when 0.9% NaCl or 50% PG was used as a vehicle. Oxygen tension in tissue was decreased after injection of PG (50%). The inhalation of pure oxygen at 1 atm. pressure, after injection of PAPP, caused an increase of O2 tension in tissues when 0.9% NaCl was used as a vehicle; however, when PG or PAPP in PG was injected, only slight elevation of oxygen tension was observed. The mortality data are related to the changes of oxygen tension in tissues.
