Abstract

Two series of linear poly-ϵ-caprolactams were synthesized in a range of molecular weights (12,000–42,000) and with different polydispersities ( M w/ M n— 1·55–2·00). Number and weight molecular weights were measured by three methods, viz, end-group titration, solution viscometry and gel permeation chromatography. Melt flow-behaviour was studied with a capillary rheometer and analysed in terms of existing theories of the flow behaviour of polydisperse polymers.
