Abstract

Eleven patients with type IV hyperlipoproteinaemia were investigated. The lipid composition of three very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) subfractions (Sf 100-400, 60-100, and 20-60) obtained by density gradient ultracentrifugation were compared with their electrophoretic mobility in agarose gel. With decreasing Sf values there was cholesterol and phospholipid enrichment relative to triglyceride. All subjects had lipoprotein with beta mobility (LPbeta) in the Sf fraction of 20-60. LPbeta may represent normally occurring intermediary particles.
