Abstract

BackgroundNurses’ health literacy (HL) may be related to communication and patient safety. This study aimed to identify nursing students’ HL and determine its relationship with learning via simulation. MethodSelf-reported questionnaires, including the HL Survey in Europe, Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning, Simulation Design Scale (objectives and information support, problem-solving, feedback, guided reflection, and fidelity/realism), and Nursing Educational Practices Questionnaire (active learning, collaboration, diverse way of learning, and high expectation), were used to collect data from 123 nursing students from four colleges in Korea. ResultsThe average HL index was 37.36 (sufficient); however, 33.3% of the participants had limited HL. Nursing students’ HL was related to simulation design, educational practices, and learners’ confidence. ConclusionIn nursing education, higher HL among nursing students is associated with effective design and teaching methods of simulation.
