Abstract

The nano-sized cobalt aluminate spinel was synthesized by autoignition technique. In the preparation of solutions nitrate salts and glycine were employed and the pH was controlled in the range of 2.5–10.5. The obtained solutions were heated at 110 °C and viscosity was recorded as a function of time. According to the rheological data, the gelation time is affected by pH and fuel ratio. The time-dependency of viscosity is related to specific surface area of powders obtained after autoignition and calcination. The results revealed that the gelation time plays an effective role in nano-particle formation and the powders synthesized at neutral and alkali conditions exhibit suitable colorant behaviors.
