People, who wish to be more successful and be effective in their personal career lives, will benefit in understanding the foundation of emotional intelligence. Before it was believed that one who has IQ is more successful in his life. But one can not be satisfied only having higher IQ but also need EQ or El to keep maintain this success. Emotional intelligence is not only necessary in personal life or maintain relations but also required at work place. Many of us say that El is just academics and management consultants repackaging old stuff for our consumption. So, it is actually new or age-old wisdom, personality theory, and communication skills repackages as the next training trend? term emotional intelligence was officially coined in 1990 by Salovey and Mayer, to clarify interpersonal skills such as compassion empathy, and trust, and interpersonal skills such as self knowledge, observation and contemplation have been reflected on throughout written history.Emotional could be define as what feel good, what feel bad, and how to be good from bad feeling, more formal meaning refers to emotional awareness and emotional management skill, which enable to balance emotions and long term happiness. emotional intelligence is multi factor concept, that's why for anyone it is not that easy to define or giving any single definition and there are a lot argument and dimensions about definition of emotional intelligence, and having different terminology in this variance some models are help to know the meaning of emotional intelligence 1) Salovey and Mayer: an ability model of emotional intelligence 2) Bar-On: A mixed model of emotional intelligence 3) Goleman: A mixed model of emotional intelligence, and the most widely accepted definition The ability to perceive emotion, integrate emotion to facilitate thought understand and to regulate emotions to promote personal growth (Mayer & Salovey, 1997).Mental health is term used to describe either a level of cognitive or emotional well being or absence of a mental disorder. During the last two decades, mental health has to be define in terms of psychological well being low psychological well being is illustrated in anxiety, depression, low morale, lack of self confidence, low sense of personal autonomy, inability to cope with the problems of living and dissatisfaction with one self and the physical environment. Mental health is fundamental component of health through which one realizes one's own cognitive afFective and relational abilities. It can be define as the ability to adjustment to the environment on the plan of reality. Well being is a positive and sustainable condition that allows individuals, groups or nations to thrive and flourish. (Huppert, Baylis & Keveme., 2005)Carol (1989) suggests that the state of psychological well being consists of six dimensions of wellness: 1) Autonomy 2) Environmental mastery 3) personal Growth 4) positive relations with others 5) purpose in life 6) self confidence in most of the research literature, psychological well being is divided into two important factors I.e. positive affect and negative affect. Positive affect and negative affect represent the affective and emotional components of subjective well being. Psychological well being resides within the experience of the individual (Campbell et al., 1976).Emotional intelligence is multifaceted and is very much related to people skills -something that is at the very core of policing. It means being able to identify and take into account the emotions of others. If these are not finely honed then constables cannot do the best possible job. They cannot deal effectively with victims, criminals or members of the public going about their lawful business. It also means being able to read your own emotions in a way that helps you understand your reactions to stressful events and to find ways of dealing with stress.
