Abstract

Before entering into any relationship with a contractor to undertake small building works, the client will be concerned with a great many issues which can be broadly categorised under three headings: (i) Direct labour or contractor — the client may choose between employing his own in-house labour force or contracting the work to a building contractor. (ii) Contractor selection — when contracting small building works, the client must choose a contractor appropriate to the work and prevailing circumstance. (iii) Assessment of risk — where a client procures any building project and enters into a relationship with a contractor, there will always be a degree of risk which must be considered.
