Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between angiostatin and endostatin serum concentrations and progression of pancreatic carcinoma. Methods 103 patients with pancreatic carcinoma were divided into resectable group (n =60) and unresectable group (n =43).Normal control group (n =30) was set up.The expression and significance of these proangiogenic factors were respectively analyzed in all groups. Results In normal control group and pancreatic carcinoma group, concentrations of endostatin were (35.1 ±5.4) and (83.9 ±16.1) μg/L,and those of angiostatin were (2.4 ±1.5) and (10.1 ± 4.9) nmol/L,respectively.Concentrations of endostatin in resectable, unresectable and post-operation groups were (61.9 ± 11.4),(102.0 ±20.3) and (31.2 ±2.9) μg/L respectively.Concentrations of angiostatin in resectable, unresectable and post-operation groups were (8.1 ± 4.9),(16.3 ± 7.8) and (2.4 ± 0.7) nmol/L respectively. All differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05).Serum angiostatin was correlated with tumor size and vascular invasion. Conclusion Antiangiogenic factors may play important roles in growth, invasion and metastasis of pancreatic cancer. Key words: Pancreatic carcinoma ; Angiostatin ; Endostatin
