Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, body esteem and sport behavior regulation of the women participants in Sports for all. To accomplish this purpose, the subjects of this study consist of 540 adult women in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheong-do who were participating in Sports for All. To analyse collected data, multiple regression analysis and path analysis were performed. In results, sociocultural attitudes toward appearance significantly affects body-esteem. Second, sociocultural attitudes toward appearance significantly affects sport behavior regulation. Internalization and awareness significantly affects sport behavior regulation. Third, body-esteem significantly affects sport behavior regulation. Physical confidence and physical health significantly affects sport behavior regulation. Fourth, there was a causal relationship between sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, body-esteem, and sport behavior regulation. In conclusions, The positive sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and the efforts to improve body-esteem are needed to improve the sport behavior regulation.
