Abstract

Tracer diffusion coefficients have been measured at 298.2 K for the five solvents benzene, toluene, cyclohexane, n-hexane and dimethylformamide separately and in a mixture at 0.2 mole fraction of each component. Tracer diffusion coefficients have been measured at 298.2 K for the binary system ethanol + benzene over the whole concentration range. These data coupled with viscosity data and density data have been used to test the Albright equation. Agreement between measured and calculated viscosity was within 1% for the five-component mixture and the maximum deviation was 1.9% for the binary mixture. Data previously obtained from this laboratory for the binary systems octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (OMCTS)+ CCl4, OMCTS + benzene and cyclopentane + cyclo-octane were also used to test the Albright equation. Good agreement was again found in these cases.
