Abstract

This paper explored the current real situation of apparel value chain in China at the level of firms, and analyzed the roles of different sectors in apparel value chain, including yarn producers, integrated producers and apparel producers etc., as well as the rules among them. Specifically, it focused on the relations and strategies of Chinese textile and apparel enterprises on the basis of questionnaire survey and in-depth interview, and further divided enterprises into 2 groups, namely initiative enterprises and passive enterprises, according to their attitudes in the above areas, therefore competitiveness could be compared between them. Finally it concluded that for most Chinese enterprises, though it is hard to change the status in global apparel value chain in short term, stronger forward and backward linkages and initiative strategies could help to capture more gains and run a better business in global production network.
