Abstract

This paper reviews 15 rating scales or procedures currently used in this country and in Europe, for the evaluation of noise in terms of the corresponding subjective response. The family relations among these ratings are shown and some psychoacoustical reasons are given for the frequently noted fact that, despite apparently great differences in the formulations of these ratings, they show high correlation among themselves when applied to a large variety of noise spectra.
