Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this article is to illustrate the type of specific support that the therapist may offer a person undertaking a growth process, who is confused about his feelings and sexual orientation, and may be afraid of admitting that he is gay. I will describe how the phases of the gay coming-out process coincide with the phases of the contact cycle experience. I will also illustrate how, within the relationship that the patient establishes with the therapist, the therapist can provide support that is respectful, which may lead the individual to gradually acquire a positive gay identity and reveal himself to others.
