Abstract

Continental Devonian sediments ofsouthern Wegener Halvø, central East Greenland (71° 40'N; fig. 25) have been studied especially by Noe-Nygaard (1934), Säve-Söderbergh (1937) and Butler (1948). The Devonian stratigraphy was re-examlned in 1968-1970 by geologists from the Scott Polar Research Institute, England (Alexander-Marrack & Friend, 1976; Friend et al., 1976).

Highlights

  • Continental Devonian sediments of southern Wegener Halvø, central East Greenland (710 40'N; fig. 25) have been studied especially by Noe-Nygaard (1934), Siive-SOderbergh (1937) and Butler (1948)

  • In 1971 and 1976 the author mapped the area between Quensel Bjerg and Store Ravnefjeld at a scale of 1:50000

  • (l) This unit (Dl offig. 25) corresponds to Save-SOderbergh's (1937)Asterolepis 'series' and to the Red Siltstone Member of Alexander-Marrack & Friend (1976). It consists of predominantly red siltstones and sandstones in bands 0.2-1.5 m thick with small-scale cross-bedding and rippie bedding, with paIe grey, medium-grained sandstone intercalations 2-5 m thick
