Abstract

Abstract Recent observations indicate a positive correlation between tubular reabsorptive capacity for glucose and parathyroid function. Decreased tubular reabsorption of glucose is reported in 6 of 8 patients with sarcoidosis and hypercalcemia, indicating parathyroid hypofunction due to nonparathyroid hypercalcemia. Two patients showed increased glucose reabsorptive capacity. Accordingly, an exploration of the neck was performed in these 2 patients, and in both pathological parathyroid glands were removed (adenoma and parathyroid hyperplasia).
