Abstract

Purpose: Adults with knee osteoarthritis (OA) frequently have hip abductor weakness. Given the importance of the hip muscles in affecting pelvis orientation during gait and rotation of the femur, both of which affect knee biomechanics, hip abductor weakness may influence OA worsening. Although cross-sectional associations have been reported, longitudinal studies are limited. Identifying relationships between weakness and structural worsening may inform current rehabilitation treatment approaches of knee OA.
