Abstract

In patients with unstable angina pectoris, angiographically detected intracoronary thrombus occurs frequently 2 and is associated with a worse prognosis, independent of the extent of disease. 2 Recently, the presence and duration of silent ischemia have been shown to be powerful predictors of outcome in unstable angina. 3 If thrombus is the key mediator of unstable angina, and if silent ischemia is an important measure of disease activity, it is reasonable to suspect a relation between these 2 phenomena. Because the relation between intracoronary thrombus and silent myocardial ischemia has not been previously explored, we studied this in patients with unstable angina whose angiographic and Holter data were previously reported. 2–4
