Abstract

The relation of the phenomena included in the terms allergy (hypersensitiveness) and immunity (resistance) has considerable significance. How to interpret a positive skin test in respect to resistance and susceptibility not infrequently becomes a question of dispute. This question arises especially in tuberculosis and recently has become an important consideration in diseases probably of coccic origin. Allergy and resistance also have to be taken into account in a proper interpretation of the pathogenesis of different types of lesions in the same disease. This seems to be of special significance in tuberculosis, syphilis, acute rheumatic fever, nonspecific chronic arthritis and probably in many other infections.
