Abstract

The stress tensor is expressed in terms of an arbitrary symmetric tensor field of second rank and the couple-stress tensor. The stress and couple-stress tensors are represented by arbitrary tensor fields satisfying the homogeneous equilibrium equations. These tensors are also given in the form of the expressions satisfying the inhomogeneous equilibrium equations used in the microcontinuum theory of elasticity. The stress tensor functions are considered.
