Abstract

An essential difference is found between the modal attenuation constants predicted by the geometrical-optics and wave-optics methods for a gently bent overmoded two-dimensional hollow waveguide. The difference can be reduced in higher-order modes when the axial-phase-constant change that is due to the bend is taken into account in the geometrical-optics method.
