Abstract

From a long data series of rainfall rate in Barcelona, maximal rainfall amounts of convective precipitation for different durations have been related in order to estimate maximal amounts corresponding to longer time intervals. Correlations are good enough in the case of short-duration storms, the most frequent case in Barcelona. An automatic procedure for estimating the maximum rainfall amount during a storm, based on the connection of a tilting bucket rain gauge and a personal computer, has been developed.
