Abstract

Sound absorption due to acoustic interaction between transducers arranged in water, that is, an active sound absorption is described. The mutual radiation resistance is calculated for two identical square piston transducers vibrating in an infinite rigid plane, and its effect on sound absorption is made clear. The calculated reduction in radiation power is about -16 dB in a three-transducer system with relative velocities 1, -1.7, and 1. Acoustic intensity field maps are drawn to visualize the behavior of active sound absorption. The negative intensity vector was observed experimentally.
