Abstract

The idea of village sufficiency economy has been proposed and endorsed by major institutions in Thai society since the 1980s. It is hoped that an adoption of this economic ideology and practice would eventually lead to a sustainable village economic development. This ideology and practice have been portrayed as if they were necessary parts of the village domestic economy that were in opposition to the capitalist market economy.
