Althoen is Associate Professor of Mathematics at the University of Michigan-Flint, where he has been since 1975. Prior to that he taught for two years at Hofstra University. He received his Ph.D. in 1973 from the City University of New York and his B.A. in 1969 from Kenyon College. His primary research interest is in the classification of real division algebras.J. F. WeidnerJohn F. Weidner is presently a Systems Engineer at MITRE Corporation, in McLean, Virginia, while on leave from Hofstra University. He earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1973. His mathematical interests include statistics and artificial intelligence. He has been interested in problems involving the speed of light ever since reading M. A. Rothman's article “Things that go faster than light,” Scientific American 203 (1960), pp. 142–152.
