Abstract

The purpose of this dissertation was to analyze the relationship between the perception of the climate for creativity in Mathematics classes of students of the 5th year of primary school, the performance of these students in Mathematics and creativity test in Mathematics. The following research instruments were designed: (a) Climate Scale for Creativity in Mathematics classes, (b) School Performance Test in Mathematics and, (c) Performance Test in Mathematics Creativity. The data were treated statistically using the Pearson correlation in order to analyze the relationships between them. There was no correlation between climate for creativity in Mathematics and the two forms of performance: in Mathematics and creativity in Mathematics. It was observed correlation in opposite directions between Climate for Creativity and Originality in Mathematics evaluated on creativity tests in Mathematics. There was a positive correlation between Performance in Mathematics and Performance in Mathematics Creativity. These results confirm the importance of integral development of mathematical abilities, the school being an important development space both basic skills in Mathematics and creative abilities. Were also found positive correlations and statistically significant between the block Greatnesses and Measures constituent of the School Performance Test in Mathematics and three variables related to creativity in Mathematics: the factor 5 Interactions of the Students in Search of Mathematics Strategies constituent of the Climate Scale for Creativity in Mathematics, Fluency (one of the aspects evaluated in the Performance Test in Mathematics Creativity) and Elaboration of Problems (type of activity that constitutes the Performance Test in Mathematics Creativity). It is understood that the results of this study are important to enhance the production of knowledge about the phenomenon of mathematical creativity in the school environment.
