Abstract

Discusses the past, present and possible future problems of records management in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Early foreign visitors who created records of the country included Dutch, German and British missionaries and colonial officers. The introduction of the Australian administration after World War II led to the generation of more records and the establishment of the registries operating in many government departments today. These operate under difficult circumstances and attempts have to be made to improve recordkeeping practices.
