Abstract

Three groups of neonates were equated on number, but differed in patterns of reinforcements for head-turning during conditioning. Ss receiving intermittent reinforcement gave more head-turning responses during extinction than infants reinforced on a continuous schedule. Operant conditioning of head movements for both of the above groups was contrasted with apparent suppession of such responding when occurrence of headturning responses delayed reinforcement for the third group.
