Abstract
The paper shows that the elastic modulus of carbon nanotubes in a polymer matrix nanocomposite is lower not only than its nominal value, but also the elastic modulus of the interfacial regions. Therefore, a degree of reinforcing carbon nanotube/polydimethylsiloxane nanocomposites is completely determined by the amount of the interfacial regions, whereas the effectiveness of the nanofiller is determined by its ability to generate such regions.
