Abstract

To a growing extent reindeer husbandry in Finland occurs side by side with modern industrial and urban society. The reindeer economy has been on the losing side. However, because ofthe amount of work invested in the reindeer, the number of these animals is larger than before. It seems clear that the number of reindeer is at its maximum, as there is no longer excess capacity of lichen land for reindeer to graze in winter.
