Abstract

THERE is a growing body of literature calling for a broader approach to patient care. This approach is referred to as preventive medicine, social medicine, rehabilitation or comprehensive medical care. As defined by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, "rehabilitation is the process of assisting the individual with a handicap to realize his potentials and goals, physically, mentally, socially, and economically."The purpose of this study is to determine if there is actually a need on a general medical ward for treatment that focuses on rehabilitation rather than limiting itself to diagnoses.The medical literature on this subject is limited. . . .
