Abstract

This very readable little book is addressed primarily to physicians, to encourage and help them in rehabilitation of cardiovascular patients. It emphasizes that the physician must take the responsibility for rehabilitation of his patient. This may mean a simple referral to a competent clinic or an involved, long-range program carried out mainly by a lone physician, as is still necessary in many, if not most, parts of the United States. Many concrete suggestions are given to help the physician on his own, especially in dealing with the patient with hemiplegia or hemiparesis. The child with heart disease is discussed briefly in two short chapters on rheumatic and congenital heart disease. There still appears to be no objective way of deciding what restrictions, if any, need be placed on the child with heart disease.
