Abstract

Summary The de novo synthesis of undermethylated tRNA I leu is initiated when E. coli bacteria are starved from methionine. It appears that the regulation of this tRNA transcription is mediated by an intact structure of its anticodon loop and/or stem because in hisT mutants (which lack pseudouridine residues in the anticodon loop and stem of the tRNA molecule) starvation in aminoacids other than methionine also lead to tRNA I leu de novo transcription.
