Abstract

Objective To investigate the regulatory effect of foscarnet sodium on interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in cervical lavage fluid of patients with persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Methods Sixty patients with persistent high-risk HPV infection in Changshu Fifth People’s Hospital from October 2015 to December 2016 were selected. The 60 patients were randomly divided into lifestyle intervention group and foscarnet sodium treatment group, with 30 cases in each group. And 30 healthy persons who underwent physical examination during the same period were selected as normal control group. The lifestyle intervention group was given reasonable exercise, sleep assurance and condom use in sexual life, and the sodium foscarnet group was given intravenous drip of sodium foscarnet and sodium chloride injection for 2 weeks on the basis of the treatment in the lifestyle intervention group, both groups were intervened for 3 months. The levels of IL-4, IL-12 and IFN-γ in cervical lavage fluid of all subjects were measured by ELISA before and after treatment. Results Before treatment, the levels of IL-4 in cervical lavage fluid of patients in lifestyle intervention group and foscarnet sodium treatment group were higher than those of normal control group (P all 0.05). The levels of IL-4 in cervical lavage fluid of patients in foscarnet sodium treatment group were lower than those before treatment (P<0.01), while the levels of IL-12 and IFN-γ were higher (P<0.01). Conclusions On the basis of lifestyle intervention, intravenous drip of foscarnet sodium and sodium chloride injection can reduce the level of IL-4 in cervical lavage fluid and increase the levels of IL-12 and IFN-gamma in patients with persistent high-risk HPV infection. Key words: Sodium foscarnet; Persistent infection of high-risk human papillomavirus; Interleukin-4; Interleukin-12; Interferon-γ
