Abstract

1. 1. The regulation of phenylalanine biosynthesis in Psuedomonas aeruginosa was examined. The enzymes studies were chorismate mutase, prephenate dehydratase and phenylalanine transaminase. 2. 2. Neither phenylalanine nor tyrosine affected the synthesis of chorismate mutase, prephenate dehydratase or phenylalanine transaminase. 3. 3. Chorismate mutase activity was inhibited by both phenylalanine and tyrosine. Prephenate dehydratase activity was inhibited by phenylalanine and stimulated by tyrosine. 4. 4. Chromatography on DEAE-cellulose showed only one major peak of activity for each of the three enzymes examined. 5. 5. The results are discussed in relation to the regulation of phenylalanine synthesis and to the occurrence of multi enzyme activities in other organisms.
