Abstract

Mutual funds (known in France as OPCVM, Organismes de Placement Collectif en Valeurs Mobilieres often referred to as UCITS or mutual funds) are companies or quasi-companies whose purpose is to invest the capital subscribed by investment unit holders in financial markets. The French mutual fund market is the second biggest in Europe. With respect to the type of funds held in France, the large share of money market funds is remarkable. The paper deals with various types of mutual funds and the management of assets and liabilities. The author has also discussed the role of various players in regulating mutual funds in France.
