Abstract

1. 1. Osmolarity and chloride concentration were measured in coelomic fluid samples taken from Nereis virens acclimated to salinities ranging from 62 to 688 mOsm osmotic content and 28 to 281 mM chloride content. 2. 2. Above 290 mOsm, N. virens is a hyperosmotic conformer. 3. 3. Below 290 mOsm and 156 mM Cl −, N virens regulates both coelomic osmolarity and chloride.
