Abstract

Root tip excision, wounding, or cotyledon removal causes a reduction of the percentage of mitotic figures in the root tip meristem. This reduction followed by recovery can be mimicked in root tip meristems of intact seedlings by treatments with methionine, Ethrel, and ethylene. Evidence is presented to suggest that this mitotic regulation is induced by wound-stimulated ethylene.
