Abstract

The investigations on the assay of IgG antibodies avidity in sera by solid-phase ELISA have been analyzed. The analysis was performed from the point of our previously established regularities in the specific binding in ELISA of antigen to components of mixtures of heterologous antibodies with similar antigen-specificity at varying ratios of their concentrations. The above approach permitted to interpret differently the experimental data. Our analysis showed that the test demonstrates the presence or absence of the predomination of IgM isotype over IgG isotype antibodies rather than the avidity of the latter. The problem of the current understanding of the terms of antibody avidity and affinity is discussed.
