Abstract

Hybrid rocket engines have been expected to be put in to practical use because of their advantages. However, they have some technical problems. Above all, the most significant problem is their very low regression rate. Therefore, many researchers have tried to improve this problem for many years. Research has discovered that paraffin-based fuel has higher regression rate than that of conventional fuels. On the other hand, swirling-oxidizerflow type hybrid rocket engine has high regression rate, too. In this study, regression rate of paraffin based fuel under swirled oxidizer flow was investigated. In addition, we compared paraffin-based fuel with PMMA fuel in order to investigate combustion mechanism.
