Abstract

To the Editor: A 46-year-old woman presented with rapid development of ulcerating nodules on her right leg during the 3 months before presentation (Fig 1, A). A punch biopsy specimen of one of two 2-cm nodules revealed dense nodular infiltrates of atypical mononuclear cells with pleomorphic nuclei and moderate pink cytoplasm in the mid and deep reticular dermis (Fig 2, A). Mitotic figures and necrotic cells were scattered throughout the lesion. These atypical cells stained positively for CD30 (Fig 2, B) and CD3, but negatively for CD20, S-100, CD1a, and anaplastic lymphoma kinase.
