Abstract

Using the caries data that was collected from the Pescadores (Peng-Hu) and the report of Wang, the relationship between the proportion of children with DMF teeth and the mean DMFT was analysed by the models of KNUTSON, KORTS et al and JARVINEN. A specific correction exponential curve y=1-abx was computed for each data set using the method of least squares. The present result agrees with the observation of KNUTSON and JARVINEN that a high correlation can be found between the proportion of children with DMF teeth (y) and the mean DMFT (x). The differences between Peng-Hu and KNUTSON's data was slightly larger than that of FINNISH and KNUTSON's data. When compared to the standard curve of x=2y that was generated theoretically, the curvature of each regression line was very similar. According to the 95% confidence intervals of the mean difference, the data set between 1968, 1982 and x=2y show no difference (C.I. including 0), except that the 1984 group had a lower value than x=2y (C.I.=-0.07 to -0.05).
