Abstract

Objective To understand the risk factors of neonatal Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) catheter blockage, observe the risk degree of different factors, and provide clinical data for neonatal care. Methods From February 2017 to August 2017, 200 children (100 male and 100 female) with PICC catheter blockage were randomly selected to compare the catheter blockage in children with PICC, the specific reasons for catheter blockage in children with PICC, and the incidence of catheter blockage in children with PICC with different basic conditions, and to conduct regression analysis of the risk factors for catheter blockage in children with PICC. Results Drug precipitation, catheter reflux, thrombosis, catheter displacement and joint blockage had significant effects on PICC catheter blockage, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There were significant differences in age, catheterization site and complications between the unblocked patients and the blocked patients, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The age of patients with blockage was mainly concentrated in the first and second week of birth, the puncture site was mainly brachial vein, and the complications were significantly more than those of patients without blockage, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The factors influencing the catheter obstruction in children with PICC were drug precipitation (OR=1.79), catheter puncture site (OR=1.27), catheter return (OR=1.15), complications (OR=1.05) and age (OR=0.76). Conclusions Patients with partial catheter blockage in children with PICC were significantly higher than patients with unblocked catheter and patients with complete catheter blockage, and patients with unblocked catheter were significantly higher than patients with complete catheter blockage. The main causes of obstruction in PICC children were drug precipitation and catheter bleeding. Key words: Peripherally inserted central catheter; Catheter blockage; Catheter puncture
