Abstract

4082 Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide and has a variety of risk factors. The REGATE international disease registry was designed to describe the geographic pattern of pt and tumor characteristics, as well as treatment of GC in order to improve pt care. Methods: Pts with newly diagnosed primary GC were enrolled from August 2004 to July 2008; data were collected at an initial visit and < 10 months later. The target sample size was calculated according to the GC prevalence in the participating countries. Baseline characteristics of pts are described according to region. Staging, diagnosis, surgical and other treatments are reported elsewhere. Results: Analyses were performed for 10,124 pts enrolled in 22 countries: Europe (E) 32%, Asia-Pacific (AP) 31%, Latin America (LA) 20%, Indian subcontinent (IS) 12%, and North Africa (NA) 6%.
