Abstract

Germplasm lines ICCV2 (GP46), ICCV3 (GP47), ICCV4 (GP48) and ICCV5 (GP49), resistant to F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceri race 1, have been released to breeders as ICCL82001, ICCL83006, ICCL83004 and ICCL83009. All were developed by pedigree selection. ICCV2 and ICCV3 were derived from the complex cross (F3 (K850 X Gw5/7) X P458) X F3 (L550 X Guamuchil) while ICCV4 and ICCV5 originated from C104 X CPS1. Bulk selection for acceptable kabuli seed type was practised in all lines. The 4 lines flower and mature as early as, or earlier than, Annigeri, a desi type cultivar recently released in peninsular India. They flower and mature earlier, and have heavier seeds, than L550, the kabuli type cultivar most recently released in northern and central India. In unreplicated trials, ICCV2 and ICCV3 yielded slightly less, and ICCV4 and ICCV5 slightly more, than Annigeri. The lines, which contain a combination of characters previously unrepresented in the ICRISAT germplasm collection, are recommended for areas with a restricted growing season, notably peninsular India, where Fusarium wilt can also be a major problem
