Abstract

AbstractArkot 0902 (Reg. no. GP‐1130, PI 700940) is a conventional cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) germplasm line released by the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station in May 2022. Arkot 0902 was derived from a cross of ‘GA 230’ (PVP 201500309) and Arkot 0012. Over 5 yr and four test sites in Arkansas, Arkot 0902 produced 10 and 20% higher lint yields than ‘UA222’ and ‘UA48’, respectively. The high lint yield of Arkot 0902 was attributed to producing more (and smaller) seed per area than UA222 or UA48. Arkot 0902 possesses leaf and stem pubescence similar to UA48 (smooth leaf) but has higher density of marginal bract trichomes. Arkot 0902 displayed high resistance to bacterial blight and was similar to UA222 and UA48 in their response to other diseases. Arkot 0902 was more resistant to tarnished plant bug than UA48 and equal to UA222. Most fiber quality traits of Arkot 0902 approached those of UA48, a high fiber–quality cultivar.
