Abstract

One important issue that has gained prominence in academic and public policy communities in recent years is that of Internet Governance. As defined by the United Nations Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG), “Internet governance is the development and application by Governments, the private sector, and civil society, in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programmes that shape the evolution and use of the Internet.”In order to articulate such shared principles, rules, etc., starting in 2006 there have been a series of annual UN sponsored global conferences called the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). The IGF has become one of the main international spaces for deliberation on global Internet Governance issues.
