Abstract

Whilst Inida has been successful in developing its water resources to meet agricultural requirements, a large area of irrigated land has gone out of production as a result of soil- and water-management problems. This paper discusses the application of regional salt- and water-balance models to problem areas in India. It is concluded that such models can aid in the understanding of soil- and water-management problems and help in developing alternative scenarios.
