Abstract

Attempts are being made to improve the level of living of people in depressed rural areas in Canada. The most significant institutional efforts are those by the Agricultural and Rural Development Administration's comprehensive planning programs. A description is given of the problem confronted both from an economic development and practical planning viewpoint. The evolving federal program including general research procedures are discussed along with the specific area programs that are being developed and implemented.
